The publication that you see before you is Highland Park’s fifth edition of
Les écrivains en herbe. This particular issue holds 11 pieces of literature and art, written by French students who have been inspired every day during their fifty-minute French class. These talented young writers have gone above and beyond vocabulary tests, verb conjugations, and grammatical patterns to build truly unique reflections of their own experiences, by sharing their view of the world in French.
Though you may not understand every word of every poem, or every aspect of every photograph, a message should evolve for all readers: colors, objects, words, letters, and sounds, all flowing together off these pages to create a fulfilling and unique reading experience. The words and pictures dominating the pages of this website will take you to new places, whether you know French or none at all. Each writer in
Les écrivains en herbe has explored the world in his or her own unique way. By writing, they have invited you to share in their experience of growth, out of the grass into the shining sun.
As a staff, we have spent a school year preparing the website you now see. Since the start, we have believed strongly in the originality of our cause: to provide an exemplary forum of self-expression, unique to students of French language and culture. Now, we would like to pass our enthusiasm for French onto you.
Please proceed, and meet
Les écrivains en herbe of 2010.
